Glutathione Patches vs Supplements and IVs: How They Differ
Compare glutathione patches, oral supplements and IVs. Explore Pure Patch Recovery ingredients, everyday convenience and what delivery research shows.
A glutathione patch is worn on the skin, an oral supplement is taken by mouth, and an IV delivers a solution into a vein. Pure Patch Recovery Patch puts glutathione, NAC, CoQ10 and DHM together in a ready-to-wear format. Its everyday advantage is convenience: no pill to swallow, powder to mix or infusion appointment to arrange.
Compare the ingredients, preparation and routine below, then see what the research says about each delivery method.
Glutathione ingredient patches and phototherapy patches
The name “glutathione patch” can describe different products. Pure Patch Recovery Patch contains 5 mg of L-glutathione in each patch, alongside NAC, DHM, a B-complex blend, CoQ10 and black pepper extract.
Other products use a different approach. LifeWave describes its Y-Age Glutathione Patch as phototherapy based on reflected light and states that no drugs or chemicals enter the body. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of its product. Read LifeWave’s product description.
Check whether the specific patch lists glutathione as an ingredient or describes a light-based mechanism. These are different product designs, so research on one type does not establish results for the other.
How do patches, oral supplements and IVs compare?
| What you're comparing | Pure Patch Recovery Patch | Oral antioxidant supplements | IV glutathione |
|---|---|---|---|
| Format | An adhesive patch worn on the skin | Capsules, tablets, liquids or powders taken by mouth | A solution administered into a vein |
| Formula | Glutathione, NAC, CoQ10 and DHM, plus B-complex and black pepper extract | Single ingredients or blends; composition varies | Ingredients and dose depend on the preparation |
| Getting started | Apply one patch to clean, dry, hair-free skin | Follow the product's serving and preparation directions | Requires venous access and a healthcare provider's treatment plan |
| Routine | Wear for up to 12 hours, then remove | Serving frequency varies by product | Administration time and schedule depend on the treatment |
| Practical appeal | Ready to wear, with no mixing or swallowing | Several formats for people who prefer taking a supplement | A clinical administration route when selected by a provider |
An IV can be administered in a clinic or through an arranged home-care service. It still involves a needle or catheter into a vein and appropriate care. MedlinePlus explains intravenous treatment.
What's in Pure Patch Recovery Patch?
We developed Pure Patch Recovery Patch with pharmacists. It combines six ingredients, with these listed amounts per patch:
- DHM: 10 mg
- L-glutathione: 5 mg
- NAC: 5 mg
- B-complex blend: 2 mg
- CoQ10: 1 mg
- Black pepper extract: 0.5 mg
Glutathione is part of the body's antioxidant system. NAC stands for N-acetyl cysteine and relates to cysteine, one of the building blocks used to make glutathione. They are distinct ingredients, and Recovery contains both. National Cancer Institute's NAC definition.
CoQ10 has roles in cellular energy production and antioxidant activity. DHM, short for dihydromyricetin, is a botanical flavonoid investigated for antioxidant activity in laboratory experiments. These ingredient roles explain the formula's antioxidant focus. NCI on CoQ10, primary DHM laboratory study.
The B-complex amount refers to the complete blend. For more detail on each ingredient, read our Recovery antioxidant formula guide.
What does research show about glutathione delivery?
Delivery method, formulation and study design help explain the different findings in glutathione research.
In a six-month randomized trial involving 54 adults, oral glutathione supplementation increased glutathione stores in several measured body compartments. A separate four-week trial found no significant change in the glutathione status or oxidative-stress markers it assessed. The different findings show why a simple claim that oral glutathione always works—or never works—misses the detail. Six-month oral trial, four-week oral trial.
Patch technology also matters. A published report studied two people using electrically assisted iontophoresis patches with a glutathione solution. It reported increased blood glutathione levels, but had no control group and did not establish clinical health benefits. That technology and preparation differ from Pure Patch Recovery Patch. Original iontophoresis report.
These studies did not test the finished Recovery Patch. Its ingredient amounts describe patch contents, not measured absorption or a dose equivalent to an oral supplement or IV. Product-specific research would be needed to compare health outcomes.
Which format fits your routine?
Choose Recovery if a ready-to-wear formula fits your routine. Keep the pouch with your daily essentials. Apply one patch to clean, dry, hair-free skin and remove it within 12 hours. The ingredients are already combined in each patch.
An oral supplement may fit if you prefer a capsule, liquid or powder and want to compare individual ingredients or blends. Read the serving size carefully: one serving may include multiple capsules, and a liquid or powder may need measuring. Follow that product's directions rather than borrowing another brand's routine.
IV treatment belongs in a conversation with a healthcare provider about a specific purpose, preparation and treatment plan. Recovery is an everyday wellness product and does not replace medically indicated IV treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Is every glutathione patch the same?
No. Compare the complete formula, ingredients per patch, application method and evidence for the finished product. A patch requiring a prepared solution or an electrical delivery system is a different product from a ready-to-wear adhesive patch.
Does Recovery replace hydration?
No. Recovery is not a fluid-replacement product. Continue your usual hydration routine; wearing a patch does not supply drinking water or an IV fluid volume.
How do you use Pure Patch Recovery Patch?
Apply one patch to clean, dry, hair-free skin. Wear it for up to 12 hours, then remove it and rotate placement. Placement options include the inner forearm, outer arm, shoulder, leg or hip. See our Recovery Patch guide for placement and removal.
